Hindustan Times · politics

India has strongly rejected remarks made by the UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR) regarding recent events in New Delhi, labelling the concerns as "misplaced" and an unwarranted interference in internal affairs. India stated that its constitution guarantees the right to peaceful assembly, safeguarded by independent institutions, judiciary, and free media. The nation also urged the OHCHR to apply similar scrutiny to large-scale protests globally, emphasizing impartiality. This response follows the UN's expression of concern over mass detentions amid protests against the Chief Election Commissioner.
