More than 1,800 people were arrested across France during and after violent protests marked by clashes, arson, and looting, according to Interior Minister Laurent Nunez. The unrest occurred on the sidelines of mass demonstrations against high inflation and rising fuel prices. Police used tear gas and water cannons to control crowds throwing objects. The minister blamed "ultra-left individuals" for the violence, which resulted in considerable property damage and injuries to around 500 police and emergency personnel.
