India's tourism sector, currently seen primarily as a source of foreign exchange, should be recognized as a major employment engine. In 2023-24, tourism directly and indirectly supported 8.46 crore jobs, representing 13.34% of total employment in the country. This sector is highly employment-intensive, creating numerous livelihoods across cities, towns, and rural areas. To maximize this potential, India needs to align skill development programs with actual job demands identified at priority tourism destinations, reversing the current trend of training first and seeking jobs later.

भारत का पर्यटन क्षेत्र सिर्फ विदेशी मुद्रा का जरिया नहीं, बल्कि रोजगार का एक बड़ा इंजन है। 2023-24 में इसने सीधे-अप्रत्यक्ष रूप से 8.46 करोड़ लोगों को रोजगार दिया, जो देश के कुल रोजगार का 13.34% है। यह क्षेत्र शहरों, कस्बों और गांवों में लाखों लोगों के लिए आजीविका का साधन है। इस क्षमता का पूरा उपयोग करने के लिए, हमें कौशल विकास को पर्यटन स्थलों की वास्तविक मांग के अनुसार ढालना होगा।
