The Gambia's Reparations Commission has received over $2.5 million from the sale of former President Yahya Jammeh's mansion in the US. These funds will be used to compensate victims of abuses committed during his 22-year rule, which ended in 2017. The US Justice Department had filed a civil forfeiture complaint alleging the property was bought with corruption proceeds. A court ordered its forfeiture in 2022, and the funds are now being returned to The Gambia. President Barrow stated his government will follow auditor recommendations for fund allocation.
