Australia has introduced new legislation, the "Digital Duty of Care" bill, aimed at preventing big tech companies from having "unfettered" access to children. Under the proposed law, platforms like Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram will be required to offer users the choice to opt out of algorithms. Companies will also be held directly responsible for protecting minors from harmful content, including pornography, bullying, and content glorifying crime or eating disorders. Communications Minister Anika Wells stated that tech firms must be accountable for the risks their products pose to young citizens.
