India Flags Politicisation of UN Human Rights Council

Times of India · world

India has stated that the United Nations Human Rights Council's credibility hinges on its even-handedness. Addressing the UN General Assembly, India's First Secretary Bhavika Mangalanandan warned that country-specific mandates pursued without the nation's involvement deepen divisions rather than improve human rights. She advocated for dialogue, cooperation, and equal treatment for all countries in addressing human rights concerns. India also stressed that economic, social, and cultural rights deserve the same attention as civil and political rights, and flagged terrorism as a grave threat.
