Calcutta HC Questions EC Over Election Symbol Allotment

The Calcutta High Court has questioned the Election Commission's conduct regarding the allotment of an election symbol to the Democratic Trinamool Congress. The court suggested potential connivance between the poll body and the private party, asking what remains if the EC is guided by external entities. The ISF had appealed the EC's decision to allot the 'envelope' symbol, previously used by ISF, to Democratic Trinamool for upcoming bypolls. The EC argued the symbol was common and ISF had no inherent right to it for the by-elections. Judgment has been reserved.

चुनाव चिन्ह आवंटन पर कलकत्ता HC ने EC से सवाल पूछे

कलकत्ता हाई कोर्ट ने डेमोक्रेटिक तृणमूल कांग्रेस को चुनाव चिन्ह आवंटित करने के संबंध में चुनाव आयोग के आचरण पर सवाल उठाए हैं। अदालत ने चुनाव आयोग और निजी पक्ष के बीच संभावित मिलीभगत का सुझाव दिया, यह पूछते हुए कि यदि चुनाव आयोग बाहरी संस्थाओं द्वारा निर्देशित होता है तो क्या शेष रहता है। ISF ने आगामी उपचुनावों के लिए डेमोक्रेटिक तृणमूल को 'लिफाफा' चिन्ह आवंटित करने के EC के फैसले के खिलाफ अपील की थी, जो पहले ISF द्वारा इस्तेमाल किया गया था। EC ने तर्क दिया कि यह चिन्ह सामान्य था और ISF का उपचुनावों के लिए इस पर कोई जन्मसिद्ध अधिकार नहीं था। फैसला सुरक्षित रख लिया गया है।
