Government Forms Panel To Examine Sugarcane Farmers' Demands

The central government has formed a high-powered committee, led by former NITI Aayog member Ramesh Chand, to examine the demands of sugarcane farmers. This comes amid rising sugar prices and farmer concerns over declining yields. The panel will review requests for higher remunerative returns, a revision of the minimum selling price of sugar, and issues related to deductions in the weight of mechanically harvested cane. It will consult various stakeholders and submit recommendations for consideration by the competent authority.
