Kerala Seeks Curbs on Inter-State Drug Procurement for Traceability

The Kerala State Drugs Control department has requested the state government to impose a six-month interim restriction on pharmaceutical firms directly procuring medicines from other states. This measure aims to enhance the traceability of drugs sold within Kerala and prevent the diversion of medicines intended for institutional supply into the general market. Officials noted that since the implementation of GST, retailers can procure medicines from anywhere, making it difficult to track their sources.

केरल राज्य ड्रग्स कंट्रोल विभाग ने राज्य सरकार से फार्मास्युटिकल कंपनियों द्वारा अन्य राज्यों से सीधे दवाएं खरीदने पर छह महीने की अंतरिम रोक लगाने का अनुरोध किया है। इस कदम का उद्देश्य केरल में बेची जाने वाली दवाओं की ट्रेसिबिलिटी बढ़ाना और संस्थागत आपूर्ति के लिए इरादा की गई दवाओं को सामान्य बाजार में जाने से रोकना है। अधिकारियों ने बताया कि GST लागू होने के बाद से, खुदरा विक्रेता कहीं से भी दवाएं खरीद सकते हैं, जिससे उनके स्रोतों को ट्रैक करना मुश्किल हो गया है।
