Former SC Judge Seeks Constitutional Safeguards for ECI Appointment

Former Supreme Court judge Kurian Joseph has called for amending the Constitution to govern the appointment and service conditions of the Election Commission of India (ECI). He believes enshrining these in the Constitution would better safeguard the ECI's integrity and independence. Joseph made these remarks during a discussion organised by the Indian Association of Lawyers, Kerala. He also expressed concern over the perceived lack of action from constitutional institutions in upholding their mandates.

पूर्व सुप्रीम कोर्ट जज कुरियन जोसेफ ने भारत के चुनाव आयोग (ECI) की नियुक्ति और सेवा शर्तों को नियंत्रित करने के लिए संविधान में संशोधन का आह्वान किया है। उनका मानना है कि इन्हें संविधान में शामिल करने से ECI की अखंडता और स्वतंत्रता बेहतर ढंग से सुरक्षित होगी। जोसेफ ने ये टिप्पणियां इंडियन एसोसिएशन ऑफ लॉयर्स, केरल द्वारा आयोजित एक चर्चा के दौरान कीं। उन्होंने संवैधानिक संस्थानों द्वारा अपने जनादेश को बनाए रखने में कार्रवाई की कथित कमी पर भी चिंता व्यक्त की।
