Meghalaya HC Mandates Expert Reports Before Hilly Road Construction

The Meghalaya High Court has mandated that expert reports from institutions like IIT Guwahati must be obtained before commencing road construction in the state's hilly regions. This directive aims to address concerns regarding slope stability and the methods used for cutting hills, emphasizing the need for scientific studies to minimize environmental damage and tree felling. The court also ordered that costs for repairing damage to structures during the Shillong-Dawki Road construction, estimated at Rs 90.84 lakh, would be deposited for repairs.

मेघालय हाई कोर्ट ने राज्य के पहाड़ी इलाकों में सड़क निर्माण शुरू करने से पहले IIT गुवाहाटी जैसी संस्थाओं से विशेषज्ञ रिपोर्ट लेना अनिवार्य कर दिया है। इस निर्देश का उद्देश्य ढलान की स्थिरता और पहाड़ियों को काटने के तरीकों से जुड़ी चिंताओं को दूर करना है, साथ ही पर्यावरण को नुकसान और पेड़ों की कटाई को कम करने के लिए वैज्ञानिक अध्ययनों की आवश्यकता पर जोर देना है। अदालत ने शिलॉन्ग-डाउकी रोड निर्माण के दौरान क्षतिग्रस्त हुई संरचनाओं की मरम्मत के लिए 90.84 लाख रुपये की लागत जमा करने का भी आदेश दिया।
