The Indian government is urging banks to enhance digital lending and financial inclusion beyond just opening accounts. Secretary Sanjay Lohiya instructed public and private sector banks to process loans entirely online and broaden credit access for micro-enterprises. The directive came during a review meeting in New Delhi focused on schemes like Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and Jan Suraksha insurance. Banks were also asked to improve awareness and claims processing for insurance schemes and increase participation in financial inclusion initiatives.
