Sri Lanka is preparing to accelerate oil and natural gas exploration in the Mannar Basin, located in its western maritime region. The Sri Lanka Petroleum Development Authority has officially launched an international auction, 'SL2026-01', for four deep-sea blocks spanning approximately 33,964 square kilometers. The primary goal is to attract international investment, as the government is not currently funding new deep-sea drilling itself.
