TMC Gets Setback From Supreme Court; Refuses To Intervene In Rebel MLA Case

The Supreme Court has refused to intervene in the matter of rebel MLAs' membership, dealing a blow to the Trinamool Congress. The TMC had filed a petition seeking directions to the Speaker to cancel the membership of these MLAs. A bench comprising CJI Suryakant and Justice Joymallya Bagchi advised the party to approach the Calcutta High Court. The apex court has granted permission to file an appropriate petition in the Calcutta High Court, which will hear the matter.
