Hundreds of garment factories in Bangladesh are facing disruptions as worker protests over low pay and the rising cost of living continue for a third day. Thousands of workers have taken to the streets, facing police action, with about 500 factories temporarily shuttered since Saturday. The government has formed a new wage board to review the minimum wage, which workers are demanding be raised from 12,500 taka to 30,000 taka. The industry, a key source of export earnings, is struggling with higher costs and slowing demand.
