Sewage Continues to Plague Putlur Lake

Works to augment sewage treatment infrastructure in Tiruvallur municipality have missed deadlines, allowing untreated sewage to enter Putlur lake. The existing 10-year-old, 6.2MLD sewage treatment plant operates at only half capacity, discharging half-treated water into the lake, which then drains into the Cooum river. Residents report ongoing pollution and health hazards, with augmentation works stalled for over a year. An official acknowledged the plant's inefficiency, while the local MLA promised expedited completion within a month.

पुतलूर झील में सीवेज का कहर जारी

तिरुवल्लूर नगर पालिका में सीवेज ट्रीटमेंट इंफ्रास्ट्रक्चर को बेहतर बनाने के काम तय समय पर पूरे नहीं हुए हैं, जिससे बिना ट्रीटमेंट वाला सीवेज पुतलूर झील में जा रहा है। 10 साल पुराना 6.2MLD का सीवेज ट्रीटमेंट प्लांट भी अपनी आधी क्षमता पर ही काम कर रहा है, और यह आधा-अधूरा ट्रीटेड पानी झील में छोड़ रहा है, जो बाद में कोउम नदी में मिल जाता है। स्थानीय लोग लगातार प्रदूषण और स्वास्थ्य संबंधी खतरों की शिकायत कर रहे हैं, और यह काम एक साल से भी ज़्यादा समय से रुका हुआ है। एक अधिकारी ने प्लांट की खराबी को माना है, जबकि स्थानीय MLA ने एक महीने के अंदर काम पूरा कराने का वादा किया है।
