The Madras High Court has ordered the formation of medical boards to examine the health of four prisoners who escaped from Theni jail. The boards, comprising three doctors each from government medical colleges in Salem and Tirunelveli, will visit the central prisons where the escapees are now lodged. This directive comes amid allegations that the prisoners faced custodial assault and ill-treatment, potentially prompting their escape. The court was informed that the Tamil Nadu State Legal Services Authority is already conducting an inquiry into these torture allegations.

मद्रास हाईकोर्ट ने थेनी जेल से भागे चार कैदियों के स्वास्थ्य की जांच के लिए मेडिकल बोर्ड बनाने का आदेश दिया है। ये बोर्ड, जिनमें सलेम और तिरुनेलवेली के सरकारी मेडिकल कॉलेजों के तीन-तीन डॉक्टर होंगे, उन केंद्रीय जेलों का दौरा करेंगे जहां कैदियों को अब रखा गया है। यह निर्देश इस आरोप के बीच आया है कि कैदियों को हिरासत में मारपीट और दुर्व्यवहार का सामना करना पड़ा, जिससे संभवतः वे भाग गए। अदालत को सूचित किया गया कि तमिलनाडु राज्य विधिक सेवा प्राधिकरण पहले से ही इन यातनाओं के आरोपों की जांच कर रहा है।
