The Patna High Court has severely reprimanded the Bihar government and local administration for administrative apathy and lack of basic amenities at the historic Mauryan-era Barabar Caves. A single bench expressed deep anguish over the continuous negligence of the 3rd-century BCE site, comparing its poor upkeep unfavourably to heritage sites in other states. The court noted that the Jehanabad district administration focuses on revenue collection like tender fees without reinvesting funds into site development.
