In 1941, Michigan businessman John Makinen constructed a unique house using approximately 60,000 chipped and flawed glass bottles from his soda factory. Makinen, a Finnish immigrant, arranged the bottles in various colours and patterns, with their bottoms facing outward, creating distinctive walls. This resourceful use of factory waste transformed the bottles into an unusual architectural feature. Decades later, in 1983, the Kaleva Historical Society acquired the property and established it as their museum, preserving this curious landmark.
