Researchers at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the US have successfully converted bamboo into an oil-like substance using hydrothermal liquefaction. By heating bamboo to 300 degrees Celsius for just 10 minutes, over 35% of the material was transformed into a crude oil-like product. This substance can be further refined into fuel for vehicles, planes, and trains. Scientists estimate large-scale production could cost around $2.75 per gallon, potentially reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 26 times compared to diesel.
