Bombay HC Quashes Extortion FIR Against 7 Flat Purchasers Citing Settlement Talks
Times of India · india
The Bombay High Court has quashed an extortion FIR and chargesheet filed against seven flat purchasers in Virar, Mumbai. The developer had accused them of demanding Rs 25 lakh each, threatening him if their demands were not met. Justice Ranjitsinha Bhonsale observed that the recorded conversations indicated a settlement proposal and negotiation, not extortion. The court stated that merely demanding an exorbitant amount does not constitute extortion without intentional threat or fear of injury. The judge noted the parties had mutually agreed to meet for settlement talks.
