Sebi Allows FPIs in Non-Agri Commodity Derivatives

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) board has approved foreign portfolio investor (FPI) participation in select non-agricultural commodity futures and options. This move aims to deepen institutional involvement in India's commodity derivatives market, which includes contracts for bullion, energy, and base metals. Previously, FPIs faced operational and tax hurdles with delivery-based contracts. The new framework permits FPIs in non-cash-settled contracts with a delivery firewall.

सेबी बोर्ड ने चुनिंदा गैर-कृषि कमोडिटी फ्यूचर्स और ऑप्शंस में विदेशी पोर्टफोलियो निवेशकों (FPI) की भागीदारी को मंजूरी दे दी है। इससे भारत के कमोडिटी डेरिवेटिव्स बाजार में संस्थागत भागीदारी बढ़ेगी, जिसमें बुलियन, ऊर्जा और बेस मेटल्स शामिल हैं। पहले FPIs को डिलीवरी-आधारित अनुबंधों में दिक्कतें आती थीं। नए नियम FPIs को कैश-सेटल न होने वाले अनुबंधों में भाग लेने की अनुमति देते हैं।
