A stampede at a prominent puja pandal in central Kolkata on Saturday evening resulted in 19 deaths and 25 injuries. Seven individuals have been arrested and booked under sections related to culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The state government will form a Special Investigation Team, potentially headed by a sitting judge of the Calcutta High Court, to investigate the tragedy. The Chief Minister announced ex-gratia relief of ₹25 lakh for kin of the deceased and ₹5 lakh for the injured, who will also receive free medical treatment.

शनिवार शाम कोलकाता के एक प्रमुख पूजा पंडाल में भगदड़ मचने से 19 लोगों की मौत हो गई और 25 घायल हो गए। सात लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया गया है और उन पर गैर इरादतन हत्या से संबंधित धाराओं के तहत मामला दर्ज किया गया है। राज्य सरकार इस त्रासदी की जांच के लिए एक विशेष जांच दल (SIT) का गठन करेगी, जिसका नेतृत्व संभवतः कलकत्ता उच्च न्यायालय के एक मौजूदा न्यायाधीश करेंगे। मुख्यमंत्री ने मृतकों के परिजनों के लिए ₹25 लाख और घायलों के लिए ₹5 लाख की अनुग्रह राशि की घोषणा की है, जिन्हें मुफ्त चिकित्सा उपचार भी मिलेगा।
