ASI Begins Restoration of Centuries-Old Vishnu Statue's Head in Khajuraho

ASI has initiated a conservation and restoration process for an 11th-century Lord Vishnu statue at the Jawari Temple in Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh. The statue, a seven-foot-tall sandstone sculpture and a prime example of Chandela art, has been missing its head for a long time. While the torso, limbs, and intricate carvings remain intact, ASI will first conduct scientific investigations into the statue's condition and stone integrity before attempting reattachment. This careful approach aims to preserve the historical and artistic authenticity of the centuries-old artifact.
