Dakshina Kannada Groundwater Levels Hit 10-Year Low Due To Poor Monsoon

Groundwater levels in Dakshina Kannada have reached their lowest point in a decade, primarily due to delayed and insufficient monsoon rainfall. Senior geologist Sheikh Davood noted that while the district remains in a safe category for groundwater availability, the situation is exacerbated by rising water consumption driven by rapid urbanisation. The average depth to static groundwater increased significantly from June 2025 to June 2026, indicating a substantial drop in the water table.

दक्षिण कन्नड़ में भूजल स्तर पिछले एक दशक में अपने सबसे निचले बिंदु पर पहुँच गया है, जिसका मुख्य कारण मानसून की देरी और अपर्याप्त बारिश है। वरिष्ठ भूविज्ञानी शेख दाऊद ने कहा कि हालाँकि जिला भूजल उपलब्धता के लिए सुरक्षित श्रेणी में है, लेकिन तेजी से शहरीकरण के कारण बढ़ते जल उपभोग ने स्थिति को और खराब कर दिया है। जून 2025 से जून 2026 तक स्थिर भूजल की औसत गहराई में काफी वृद्धि हुई, जो जल स्तर में भारी गिरावट का संकेत देता है।
