India could face a loss of over Rs 35,000 crore annually if it reduces oil imports from Russia to avoid US tariffs and sources it elsewhere. Importing 1 million barrels per day of oil costing $5-10 more per barrel would lead to an additional annual bill of $1.8-3.7 billion. Russia supplied about 42% of India's crude oil imports in August, making a shift difficult. With India's peak demand season approaching, replacing such a large supply volume poses significant challenges, potentially impacting fuel availability and national interest.
