New Snapchat records from a 2024 sexual assault case at Cornell University have prompted a fresh investigation. The messages, exchanged in a group chat titled “Chi Phi Actives,” included a photograph of the victim inside the fraternity house. New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced that Attorney General Letitia James will take over the case as special prosecutor, citing a loss of faith in the Tompkins County district attorney’s handling. The decision aims to ensure all facts are examined and justice is pursued for the victim.
