Dalit Cook Assaulted For Water Delay In Madurai

A 61-year-old Dalit cook was severely assaulted by a customer in Madurai after he could not immediately provide water for washing hands. The accused, who has a prior arrest in a caste killing case, allegedly used a wooden reaper and his footwear to strike the cook. The victim was hospitalized and later underwent surgery. Rights activists are questioning the police for not invoking the SC/ST Act, citing the victim's severe injuries. Police stated relevant sections can be added during the investigation.

मदुरै में एक 61 साल के दलित रसोइए को ग्राहक ने पानी तुरंत न दे पाने पर बुरी तरह पीटा। आरोपी, जिस पर पहले भी जाति हत्या का मामला दर्ज है, ने कथित तौर पर लकड़ी के रेपर और जूते से रसोइए पर हमला किया। पीड़ित को अस्पताल में भर्ती कराया गया और बाद में सर्जरी हुई। मानवाधिकार कार्यकर्ताओं ने पीड़ित की गंभीर चोटों को देखते हुए पुलिस से SC/ST Act क्यों नहीं लगाया, यह सवाल किया है। पुलिस का कहना है कि जांच के दौरान संबंधित धाराएं जोड़ी जा सकती हैं।
