Police stated that permission for the gathering had not been granted, leading to widespread criticism from opposition leaders regarding the treatment of detainees. Security was heightened across the capital, with several metro stations closed and stadiums converted into temporary detention centers.

मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त ज्ञान प्रकाश कुमार के इस्तीफे की मांग को लेकर हुए प्रदर्शनों के दौरान दिल्ली में करीब 1,000 प्रदर्शनकारियों को हिरासत में लिया गया। हिरासत में लिए गए लोगों में पूर्व मुख्यमंत्री पिनाराई विजयन, अरविंद केजरीवाल और ममता बनर्जी भी शामिल थे। पुलिस ने कहा कि प्रदर्शन की अनुमति नहीं दी गई थी, जिससे विपक्षी नेताओं ने हिरासत में लिए गए लोगों के साथ हुए व्यवहार की व्यापक आलोचना की। राजधानी में सुरक्षा कड़ी कर दी गई थी, कई मेट्रो स्टेशनों को बंद कर दिया गया था और स्टेडियमों को अस्थायी हिरासत केंद्रों में बदल दिया गया था।
