Consumer trust in food and drug safety hinges on making compliance easier and non-compliance significantly more costly, stated Maharashtra FDA commissioner Tukaram Mundhe. He emphasized that regulators must create an ecosystem where violations incur substantial penalties, especially since unsafe products can lead to loss of life. Mundhe highlighted that current penalties, like the Rs 3 lakh to Rs 10 lakh fine for adulteration, are insufficient to deter businesses earning crores.

महाराष्ट्र FDA कमिश्नर तुकाराम मुंडे ने कहा कि खाद्य और दवा सुरक्षा में उपभोक्ता का भरोसा अनुपालन को आसान बनाने और गैर-अनुपालन को काफी महंगा बनाने पर निर्भर करता है। उन्होंने जोर दिया कि नियामकों को एक ऐसा इकोसिस्टम बनाना चाहिए जहां उल्लंघन पर भारी जुर्माना लगे, खासकर जब असुरक्षित उत्पादों से जान जा सकती है। मुंडे ने बताया कि मिलावट के लिए वर्तमान जुर्माना, जैसे कि 3 लाख से 10 लाख रुपये का जुर्माना, करोड़ों कमाने वाले व्यवसायों को रोकने के लिए अपर्याप्त है।
