India's Census 2027 To Recruit Private Teachers, Institutions As Enumerators

The Union government has expanded the eligibility criteria for Census enumerators for the 2027 Census, allowing private school teachers and members of institutions, societies, and trusts to be appointed. Previously, the role was primarily filled by government school teachers and state government officials. This change comes after legal challenges in states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Haryana, where private teachers had moved court over being assigned enumeration duties. Approximately 34 lakh enumerators are needed for the upcoming Population Enumeration phase.
