Centre Advises Drought-Hit States on Rabi Crop Planning

The Centre has urged states facing water scarcity to revise their rabi crop plans, aligning sowing with available water and soil moisture. This advisory comes as drought-like conditions in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh increase the risk of crop loss. Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasized water availability as the primary factor for crop selection. The government also recommended prioritizing less water-intensive pulses and oilseeds in affected regions. This strategic shift is crucial as rabi production significantly contributes to India's total foodgrain output.

केंद्र ने पानी की कमी का सामना कर रहे राज्यों से कहा है कि वे अपनी रबी फसल योजनाओं को संशोधित करें और बुवाई को उपलब्ध पानी और मिट्टी की नमी के अनुसार करें। यह सलाह ऐसे समय में आई है जब महाराष्ट्र, कर्नाटक, तेलंगाना और आंध्र प्रदेश में सूखे जैसी स्थिति से फसल नुकसान का खतरा बढ़ गया है। कृषि मंत्री शिवराज सिंह चौहान ने फसल चयन के लिए पानी की उपलब्धता को प्राथमिक कारक बताया। सरकार ने प्रभावित क्षेत्रों में कम पानी चाहने वाली दालों और तिलहनों को प्राथमिकता देने की भी सिफारिश की है। यह रणनीतिक बदलाव महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि रबी उत्पादन भारत के कुल खाद्यान्न उत्पादन में महत्वपूर्ण योगदान देता है।
