Home-Cooked Meals Get 10% Dearer In September Due To Rising Onion, Oil, LPG Prices
Business Standard · business
The cost of preparing a home-cooked vegetarian thali increased by 10 per cent year-on-year in September, reaching Rs 30.8 from Rs 28.1. This rise was primarily driven by significant price hikes in onions, vegetable oil, rice, and LPG. Non-vegetarian thalis saw a 6 per cent increase, costing Rs 59.5 compared to Rs 56 a year ago. Onion prices surged by 89 per cent due to tight supply and production declines, while vegetable oil and LPG prices also climbed. These increases reflect broader inflationary pressures impacting essential food commodities.
