These remarks came as the Supreme Court bench was informed of alleged police excesses and detentions during demonstrations. Senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan highlighted concerns over police action and the absence of a specific order in the public domain. The court agreed to hear the matter further, emphasizing the right to peaceful assembly while urging restraint.

भारत के मुख्य न्यायाधीश सूर्यकांत ने सोमवार को कहा कि हर वकील को निर्धारित स्थानों पर शांतिपूर्ण विरोध प्रदर्शन करने का अधिकार है। ये टिप्पणियाँ तब आईं जब सुप्रीम कोर्ट की बेंच को प्रदर्शनों के दौरान कथित पुलिस ज्यादतियों और हिरासत में लिए जाने की सूचना दी गई। वरिष्ठ अधिवक्ता गोपाल शंकरनारायणन ने पुलिस कार्रवाई और सार्वजनिक डोमेन में किसी विशिष्ट आदेश की अनुपस्थिति पर चिंता जताई। अदालत ने शांतिपूर्ण सभा के अधिकार पर जोर देते हुए आगे मामले की सुनवाई के लिए सहमति व्यक्त की, साथ ही संयम बरतने का आग्रह किया।
