IIT Guwahati Bacteria Treats Toxic Textile Waste

Researchers at IIT Guwahati have discovered a novel bacterium, Brevundimonas sp. AJZ05, capable of degrading toxic textile dyes. In laboratory tests, this bacterium successfully broke down 98.50% of Direct Blue-6, a common azo dye, by producing an enzyme called azoreductase. This biological approach offers a promising solution to treat wastewater from textile industries, which often contains persistent pollutants harmful to aquatic life and human health.
