New Spider Species Named After John Denver

Two amateur spider enthusiasts at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History discovered a new species of trapdoor spider. While examining uncatalogued specimens, Valerie Warhol and Amy Bianco found four rusty-orange spiders collected in West Virginia in 1994. These spiders, belonging to the Cyclocosmia genus, did not match any known species due to the number of ridges on their abdomens. The new species has been officially named Cyclocosmia johndenveri, honouring the late singer John Denver.
