Banks' Treasury Income Set To Plummet By Nearly 60% In Q2

Economic Times · stocks

Banks are projected to experience a significant nearly 60% decline in treasury income for the July-September quarter compared to the previous year. This sharp fall is attributed to a substantial increase in government bond yields, which negatively impacts bond prices. Analysts estimate aggregate treasury gains to be around ₹5,500 crore, a decrease from ₹13,100 crore a year ago. This trend is expected to continue, with future profit growth needing to rely more on core lending and fee income.
