Allahabad HC Raps UP Police Over Unlawful Detention, Cites Ignorance of Law

The Allahabad High Court has strongly criticised the Uttar Pradesh Police for the unlawful detention of an individual before his formal arrest, stating the police seem to act as "a law unto themselves." The court noted the ignorance of specific legal procedures by officers and their cavalier approach to statutory requirements. It requested the UP Director General of Police to improve training modules to sensitise officers to civil liberties.
