Former Minister J. Chinchurani has urged the government to abandon the proposal to relocate the Thiruvananthapuram zoo. She emphasized that the zoo is a vital part of the city's heritage and offers a unique opportunity for people, especially children, to connect with nature. Instead of moving the facility, Chinchurani advocates for a scientific renovation to modernize its infrastructure and improve animal welfare. She also warned that relocating the zoo to a forest area could risk zoonotic disease transmission and harm wildlife populations, deeming relocation against public interest.
