Centre Defends CAPF Act, Says IPS Deputation Vital for Security
Hindustan Times · politics
The Centre has defended the Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Act, 2026, in the Supreme Court, asserting it does not override a May 2025 judgment. The government stated that deputing IPS officers to senior CAPF positions is crucial for the nation's internal security architecture. The Act, which came into force on October 8, does not re-enact any provisions previously struck down by the court. Over 800 CAPF officers had challenged the law, arguing it circumvents the apex court's ruling that directed a reduction in IPS deputations.
