Mahatma Gandhi's great-grandson, Tushar Gandhi, was taken into custody by Mumbai Police, before he could demonstrate against the Election Commission. Gandhi was detained near National College while en route to August Kranti Maidan. Police have heightened security in areas like Shivaji Park, anticipating potential protests by the CJP, an organisation Gandhi is associated with. Gandhi had previously alleged police pressure to cancel the demonstration, vowing to proceed with the protest in support of a similar demonstration in Delhi, even if it meant arrest.
