Thousands Rally in Manipur Against Killings, Demand End to Militant Pact

Thousands of people from various communities rallied in Imphal, Manipur, organised by the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI). Protesters demanded the scrapping of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with militant groups and the safe return of internally displaced persons. Naga organisations also supported these demands, calling for the termination of the SoO agreement due to alleged Kuki-Zo militant involvement in violence. The demonstrations occur amidst ongoing ethnic conflict between Meitei and Kuki communities, which has claimed over 300 lives since May 2023.

मणिपुर के इम्फाल में विभिन्न समुदायों के हजारों लोगों ने कोऑर्डिनेटिंग कमेटी ऑन मणिपुर इंटीग्रिटी (COCOMI) द्वारा आयोजित एक रैली में भाग लिया। प्रदर्शनकारियों ने उग्रवादी समूहों के साथ निलंबन की कार्रवाई (SoO) समझौते को रद्द करने और आंतरिक रूप से विस्थापित व्यक्तियों की सुरक्षित वापसी की मांग की। नागा संगठनों ने भी इन मांगों का समर्थन किया, और कुकी-जो उग्रवादियों की हिंसा में कथित संलिप्तता के कारण SoO समझौते को समाप्त करने की मांग की। ये प्रदर्शन मई 2023 से 300 से अधिक जानें लेने वाले मैतेई और कुकी समुदायों के बीच चल रहे जातीय संघर्ष के बीच हुए हैं।
