Former SC Judge Kaul Criticises Ex-CJI Chandrachud's Government Deference

Former Supreme Court judge Sanjay Kishan Kaul has expressed his belief that former Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud was too deferential to the government regarding judicial appointments. In his book, Kaul states that Chandrachud gave the government too much say in selecting judges. Kaul served on the collegium, the body responsible for recommending judicial appointments, and objected to what he termed "pre-approval." This practice involved seeking the government's nod before the collegium had formally deliberated on candidates.
