Plaintiffs claimed that a promised $1 million daily lottery giveaway was used to mislead voters into signing a petition. The settlement, pending court approval, resolves accusations that winners were not randomly selected as advertised. Musk's representatives had previously stated recipients were paid spokespeople, not lottery winners. The US Department of Justice had also warned the sweepstakes could violate federal election law.
