Chennai Contractors Face Fines For Delayed Streetlight Repairs

TOI - Delhi · india

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has mandated that private contractors must now repair faulty streetlights within 24 hours of a complaint, or face financial penalties. This new policy aims to ensure city roads are not left in darkness, reducing risks for residents and motorists. The GCC will award one-year maintenance contracts for over 2.33 lakh streetlights and 443 high-mast lights across 12 zones. Delays beyond 24 hours will incur fines of 5% of the annual maintenance cost per pole, escalating with further delays.
