Calcutta HC Dismisses ISF Plea Over 'Envelope' Symbol for Nandigram Bypoll

The Calcutta High Court has dismissed a plea by the Indian Secular Front (ISF) challenging the Election Commission of India's decision to allot the 'Envelope' symbol to the Democratic Trinamool Congress (DTC) for the Nandigram bypoll. Justice Krishna Rao stated that the symbol was allotted to ISF only for the 2026 assembly election, which has concluded. The court noted that the ISF had not provided any documentation to support its claim for the symbol in the bypoll.

कलकत्ता हाई कोर्ट ने इंडियन सेक्युलर फ्रंट (ISF) की उस याचिका को खारिज कर दिया है जिसमें उन्होंने नंदिग्राम उपचुनाव के लिए डेमोक्रेटिक तृणमूल कांग्रेस (DTC) को 'लिफाफा' प्रतीक आवंटित करने के चुनाव आयोग के फैसले को चुनौती दी थी। जस्टिस कृष्णा राव ने कहा कि यह प्रतीक ISF को केवल 2026 के विधानसभा चुनाव के लिए आवंटित किया गया था, जो अब समाप्त हो चुका है। अदालत ने यह भी कहा कि ISF ने उपचुनाव में प्रतीक के लिए अपने दावे का समर्थन करने के लिए कोई दस्तावेज़ पेश नहीं किया था।
