Midwife's Mountain Trek Inspires Film To Save Kinnauri Language

The Better India · lifestyle

Filmmaker Nihaarika Negi has created "Tenfa," India's first narrative film in the Kinnauri language, inspired by her midwife aunt Bua Dolma's arduous daily trek to deliver babies in the remote village of Kandhar. Negi collaborated closely with the Kinnaur community, with local actors and cultural organizations ensuring the story authentically reflected their heritage. The film's script was reviewed by elders and younger generations, preserving traditional storytelling methods. This initiative aims to celebrate and safeguard the rich cultural identity of the Kinnaur region.
