New Aviation Rules Allow Centre to Intervene on Airfares in Rare Cases
Hindustan Times · business
New aviation rules, notified on October 26 and effective January 1, 2027, empower the Central government to directly intervene in air ticket pricing during extraordinary situations. These rules, under the Bharatiya Vayuyan Niyam, 2024, shift intervention power from the DGCA to the Central government for public interest directives. Airlines must also separately disclose cancellation charges and refund conditions alongside fares. While not imposing routine fare caps, the framework mandates tariff submission and monitoring by the DGCA for scheduled Indian and foreign airlines operating to or from India.
