The Reserve Bank of India has increased the repo rate by 25 basis points, citing broadening price pressures and rising core inflation. Diffusion indices indicate a significant increase in items experiencing inflation above 4 percent. Governor Sanjay Malhotra highlighted that both headline and core inflation are now key considerations for policy decisions. Despite concerns over supply-side pressures from deficient monsoons, the RBI revised its FY27 growth projection upwards to 7.1 percent, allowing for a rate hike without significant growth sacrifice.
