Supreme Court Orders Rajasthan to Seal Illegal River Discharge Points

The Supreme Court has directed the Rajasthan government to seal and dismantle all illegal discharge points into the Jojari-Luni-Bandi river system. The court also ordered the recovery of environmental compensation from polluters for the entire period of violations. This directive stems from suo motu proceedings initiated after a report highlighted alarming pollution levels in the Jojari river, which serves two million people. The court emphasized a shift from a reactive to a proactive approach in tackling environmental damage, urging state machinery to anticipate risks and ensure continuous coordination among authorities.
